It's time to ditch Chrome
Chrome is currently the most popular browser, but that doesn't mean it's the best. It used to be the best, but now there are many of other browsers that are better in every way, from features to security (Chrome collects a lot of user data!).
If you are using Windows, using Edge is better than Chrome because Edge is also a Chromium-based browser, and it comes pre-installed anyway. Although, I wouldn't recommend using Edge because there are so many better options like:
Firefox
Firefox-based browsers are the most secure. But more importantly, Firefox is extremely customizable:
- Unlike most Chromium-based browsers, Firefox allows you to change the position of toolbar buttons.
- You can easily create themes with Firefox Color.
- If you want to change more advanced stuff, you can customize Firefox with CSS.
- Or use one of the beautiful themes developed by the community.
Zen
Zen is also Firefox-based but has been heavily modified to increase performance, privacy and security. It has good default settings, without the need to spend a lot of time configuring like Firefox. Zen takes all the best of Firefox's customizability and x10s it: It has vertical tabs like Arc, and accent colors... But Zen's killer feature, the thing that makes Zen stand out from other browsers, is its theme system:
In Firefox, users can personalize it further by writing CSS to intervene deeply in the browser, these are quite complicated to install, but then it is still quite limited. In contrast, Zen has a JS and CSS theme system built into the browser, even allowing users to upload themes to Zen's theme store so that anyone who wants it can download and use it. Furthermore, Zen also allows users to use multiple themes at the same time, each of which can customize individual components so that the user can choose and combine them to create the best experience for themselves.
Some Chromium-based alternatives
Zen is the best in many ways, but it's not a Chromium-based browser. This can be seen as a good thing because it breaks the monopoly that Chrome and Google hold in the web browser market. But some still need to use Chromium-based browser for a variety of reasons.
Brave
Brave is second in terms of privacy and security, but its default setting is the most secure (it has a built-in ad-blocker), which is great for those who want security without the hassle of setting up.
Unlike Firefox on mobile, Brave on mobile is also very secure, using the same browser on all platforms is also very convenient for data synchronization, open tabs, etc.
